Monastir will be very familiar to anyone who's seen Monty Python's Life of Brian which made the most of the areas picturesque locations. The quiet evenings suit families and couples best.
Always dress respectfully when visiting religious buildings or monuments. Watch out for thieves and pickpockets - especially in the market areas - and carry cash and valuables in a money belt or inner pocket.
