Lanzarote is a stunning volcanic island with low rise white buildings, red rocks, and a wind that blows in from the Western Sahara Desert.
The countryside is torn and patched by old lava which in places looks like a kind of lunar landscape. All this plus sandy beaches.
Lanzarote is about 100 km off the African coast, and is warmed by the Saharan temperatures meeting the Gulf Stream.

Costa Teguise (25 minutes from Arrecife airport). A modern, tree-lined resort with an 18 hole golf course, an aquapark and a kids beach. Nightlife is low key. Suitable for families and couples.
Matagorda (15 minutes from Arrecife airport). Home to both peace and quiet and plenty of fun, this resort has a beautiful beach offering windsurfing, and lots of bars, cafes and restaurants. Something for everyone.
Playa Blanca (45 minutes from Arrecife airport). Charming modern resort with a peaceful old world harbour. Suitable for families and couples.
Playa de los Pocillos (30 minutes from Arrecife airport). Small relaxed resort makes a good base from which to explore for singles and couples.
Puerto del Carmen (15 minutes from Arrecife airport). The longest-established resort on the island, with an atmospheric old quarter as well as excellent beaches, watersports and a varied busy nightlife suitable for young singles and couples.
